Ipad in use iOS accounts for 5% of all British internet browsing at laptopshop.co.ukDevices running on iOS, which means of course iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches, are currently accounting for upwards of five per cent of all internet use in the UK.

Data compiled and published by Net Applications has shown that the UK, along with Australia, has a particularly high proportion of Apple branded products being used to go online.

The prevalence of Apple devices is reckoned to be higher in the UK than in the US, where iOS accounts for 3.4 per cent of all online browsing, and higher than the global average, which stood at 2.06 per cent as of January 2011.

More than a 160 million iOS units have been sold worldwide to date, with the introduction of the iPad just under a year ago having helped to boost an already popular operating system. Apple fans are expecting a second iteration of the world’s most widely-used tablet PC at some point in the first half of this year.

According to Net Applications, Singapore is the country in which iOS devices are currently accounting for the largest share of local internet activity with the island’s figure coming in at just short of ten per cent.

The proportion of internet activity emanating from Apple’s mobile technology is reported to have increased notably during what American analysts refer to as “the holiday period” and what British consumers will probably think of as the run up to Christmas.

Meanwhile, a study released last week by Kelkoo put the UK at the top of a list of Europe’s biggest online shoppers, with £44 billion worth of e-commerce receipts being filed nationwide over the course of 2010.
