Apple’s iPad newspaper launches in the U.S. at laptopshop.co.uk

The Daily – Apple’s digital newspaper for the iPad – has officially launched in the US.

The ‘paper’ is a project run jointly by Apple and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp; it will be downloadable from the Apple App Store, with weekly subscriptions costing 99cents – or $39.99 for a year.

Murdoch was gushing with praise for Apple as he and Apple’s Vice President of Internet Services, Eddy Cue unveiled The Daily at New York City’s Guggenheim Museum.

“We’re honoured that Apple has put its backing behind this venture,” he said. “Simply put, the iPad demands we [the media] completely re-imagine our craft.”

Murdoch continued to describe the benefits of the digital version of The Daily, including interactive 360 degree photographs and customisable sports feeds. The 79-year old news mogul also stated his desire to grow the project to include other tablet devices.

“We have been quite honest with Apple,” Murdoch continued. “We expect to be on all major tablets. But we believe this year and maybe next year really belong to Apple.”

The Daily will continue to produce its regular, newsprint edition, but will use the iPad to experiment with different kinds of news distribution as well as developing news tailored to the interests of the individual.

Eddy Cue also took the time to announce the impending introduction of other app subscriptions, available through the Apple App Store. These apps will allow customers access to continuously rolled out contract over the duration of their subscription.
