Android Market web store launched
Google has launched a much improved Android Market web store as part of its refresh of its app offering.
The news was announced at the Android 3.0, aka Honeycomb, press event but went largely unreported.
Already comparisons are being drawn between the Android Market store, at Market.Android.com, and Apple’s App Store.
Both feature reviews, ratings and charts and a fill list of all the apps available complete with pictures.
The Android Market update also allows people to check out and compare apps on their computers before downloading them direct to their phone (or tablet soon) with a Google account.
TechRadar quotes Android engineering director for cloud computing Chris Yerga as saying: “No wires, no synching with computers, none of that sort of nonsense. Everything just works seamlessly syncing between the two.”
And users will also be able to make in-app payments to reach extra levels in games, buy extra content or receive upgrades.
This is all a big improvement on the Android Market web store of yesteryear that was limited to a ‘featured’ section.
