'iOS 4.3 code indicating iPad 2 will have cover lock' /Apple InsiderSome leaked iOS 4.3 beta code has sparked predictions that the Apple iPad 2 will have a case that will automatically lock the tablet.

The code includes two strings that refer to an iPad cover lock and case lock suggesting that the device could have an added proximity sensor activated by the case or cover.

The code was apparently uncovered by website blogdoiphone.com.

The actual value description for the strings read: “iPad Cover Lock / Unlock” and “Automatically lock and unlock your iPad when you close and open the iPad cover.”

If the predictions are true iPad 2 users will not need to press the home button and then “slide to unlock” their tablets, as it would happen automatically when they removed the case.

This is adding fuel to rumours that the next-generation iPad will be buttonless as the home button will not be needed, especially if speculation about multi-touch gestures is correct.

There have been no reports on whether Apple will sell the iPad 2 with a case, if it will be inbuilt or if customers will be given the option to buy one.
