HP appear to be emulating the tablet market with the announcement of an addition to their touchscreen PC range.

The TouchSmart 9300 Elite – the latest HP touchscreen desktop – utilises a cleverly manoeuvrable design which allows the 23 inch screen to be tilted to 30 degrees off flat or 5 degrees over vertical, allowing the device to be used at a work station almost like a tablet. The device will also be capable of swivelling180-degrees.

But this device is far from just agile, its Intel Core i3 – with options of i5 and i7 – processors give the devices some much-needed muscle. The device also packs 16 GB of memory.

Tech-bloggers are declaring the 9300 Elite the first serious business model in HP’s touchscreen desktop range; the nimbleness of the device allows gathered groups of business employees to use the product together collaboratively. It is this ability that HP’s chief desktop Pc design strategist, Randall Martin believes make this latest PC a huge leap forward for the range:

“People have a different relationship with touchscreens than they do with traditional PCs”, Martin said. “Instead of a one-to-one dynamic, it is often one-to-many, as the machines are used by groups instead of individuals.”

HP will be hoping that a successful run for this product can boost the profile of touchscreen desktop PCs in a market dominated by tablet and laptop devices. There is no release date for the product yet, but the i3 version of the Elite is expected to retail at $1199 stateside.
