Samsung Tab 10.1 Samsung confirms launch of Galaxy Tab 10.1 at laptopshop.co.ukSamsung has confirmed the launch of an updated version of the Galaxy Tab, which has been named after its screen size of 10.1 inches.

The launch of a Honeycomb-operated competitor for the iPad had been strongly rumoured for this week’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona but Samsung has now officially unveiled its newest tablet offering.

Powered by Tegra 2 dual-core processors, the up-dated Tab will be the first from Samsung to take on the iPad in the same size category and the Korean electronics giant is billing its release as an “entertainment powerhouse”.

“As a leader in the Android-powered tablet market, Samsung is committed to providing a variety of feature-rich, always-on devices,” said DJ Lee, executive vice president and head of sales and marketing for the company.

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a valuable addition to our expanding portfolio of smart media devices. Sporting a large 10.1 screen and dual surround-sound speakers, it enables users to enjoy multimedia to the maximum extent without having to compromise mobility.”

Cameras are installed front and back on the new Tab and is to be made available with either 16GB or 32GB of storage capacity.

Several tablets running on the Honeycomb version of Google’s Android operating system are set to be introduced into world markets over the course of the coming weeks and months, with most analysts expecting the devices to take at least a bite out of Apple’s near-90 per cent market share.
