Remote access firm, LogMeIn have announced that they will provide secure remote connections for devices running Google’s Android platforms.

The announcement at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, concerned the release of a new LogMeIn product – named LogMeIn Rescue – which sees the addition of support for Google’s operating system.

The Rescue tool is available in two versions; one is designed for use by IT departments in business and the other aimed at mobile operators who wish to provide extra connectivity for their users.

The mobile operator version of the tool also includes a support function via which a technician can access a devices’ screen and quickly fix any problems.

LogMeIn vice president of support products, Lee Weiner recognises the growing market share enjoyed by Android devices and the needs of Android device users;

“Mobile operators and device manufacturers want to make sure their customers have the absolute best experience with their Android smartphones and tablets,” said Weiner. “Good, fast support is a critical part of keeping those customers happy.”

The list of devices supported by LogMeIn already includes such luminaries as RIM’s BlackBerry, Microsoft’s Windows phones and PCs and Apple’s iPhone, iPad and Mac devices; adding Android to this roster will place the company in a strong position for the forthcoming year.
