The Tegra 2 powered device truly wowed audiences at MWC as Motorola demonstrated some of the features that it hopes will make the Xoom the first serious competitor to the iPad.

Some of the features that caught the eye in Barcelona were the support for 3D Google Maps thanks to the improved Honeycomb interface, the Motorola Media Link which allows direct streaming of non-DRM controlled content from iTunes and other music sources and the “persistent navigation bar” which remains at the bottom of the screen and negates the need to constantly hit the “back” button to find your way around the device.

As for the more mundane aspect of specifications; the Xoom comes with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and its Tegra 2 chip clocks in at 2GHz.

The 10.1 inch device sports a 16.9 aspect ratio, features a HDMI out for streaming content to HD televisions and monitors and includes a 5 mega pixel rear-facing camera as well as a 2 mega pixel camera in the front for making video calls.

Stay tuned for more information on this exciting device over the next few days.
