Adobe Flash 10.2 for Android devices
Adobe are set to unleash version 10.2 of their Flash player for Android smartphone and tablet devices.
The upgraded Flash will be supported by Android 2.2 – Froyo – and 2.3 – Gingerbread – smartphones, as well as Android Honeycomb running tablets.
Tablet’s running the Honeycomb version of Android will have to perform a slight upgrade however, as Flash 10.2 will require Android v.3.0.1 in order to run.
Adobe are excited about the latest incarnation of Flash player, and say they hope that the new version will realise the full potential of the cutting edge Android machines:
“The new version of Flash will deliver performance improvements designed to take advantage of the current generation of multi-core, GPU-enabled processors to deliver Flash videos, games and other interactive web content on the latest martphones and tablets,” says the snappy press release. “Features include a more optimised experience for touch-screen users and a new ActionScript API which enables developers ro automatically launch the softpad”.
The tablet version will feature the Stage Video rendering pipeline to allow smooth HD playback of Flash content on the web. This reduces the strain on CPU chips and allows higher frame rates. This is not available on Froyo or Gingerbread devices.
Flash 10.2 will be available through the Android Market initially, but will eventually be pre-installed on devices.
