Yahoo follows in the footsteps of The Daily with its Livestand app
Yahoo have announced the Livestand app for tablets and mobile devices, an application which allows personalised browsing of Yahoo sites, such as Yahoo News and Yahoo Sports.
The app will also allow browsing of Flickr and celebrity gossip site, OMG, both of which are owned by the California company.
Similarly to the Google Homepage, the app will be fully personalised with a home screen based upon user preference and will include other widgets such as a timepiece and calendar and real time weather reports.
Yahoo CEO, Carol Bartz is expected to elaborate on the features of the Livestand app in front of the crowds at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona next week. The finished article is expected to be similar to Yahoo’s joint venture with the coffee chain, Starbucks that appeared last year and consisted of a personalized home screen accessible only from Starbucks branches.
With more and more developers opening up the enormous potential of media apps, we can expect to see more of these magazine-style applications springing up. Analysts have already identified trends in which potential consumers are placing almost as much weight on app quality as on product quality, a trend that has sent manufacturers and developers alike scurrying to their drawing boards in a frantic hurry to create new and enticing applications.
