LG Slate LG plans first tablet launch next month at laptopshop.co.ukLG looks set to stake a claim on the tablet PC sector with the introduction of its first slate device, the G-Slate, at some point during March of this year.

American consumers will be among the first to get their hands on the LG tablet, with the Korean conglomerate confirming its intention to make an Android-operated device available in the US next month.

A couple mobile network operators are on-board with the idea and LG will clearly be hoping its Honeycomb tablet will be able to out-compete the Xoom from Motorola, which should by then by in stores across the country and running the same system.

The company will also be hoping that Americans can be persuaded of the value and quality of non-Apple tablet PCs, with the iPad having had the marketplace virtually to itself since the spring of last year.

Pricing details are yet to be released but there is likely to be at least some interest in an 8.9-inch, Honeycomb, Nvidia dual-core powered alternative to the iPad and the Galaxy Tab from Samsung, which was released back in October.

Motorola has been aiming to undermine the popularity of the the iPad this week, with an ad for its up-coming Xoom device suggesting that the prevalence of Apple products and applications amounts to a lack of freedom for consumers.

Just about every analyst in the world is expecting to see the tablet PC sector take off dramatically over the course of 2011, with a string of mobile slate devices expected to be brought to market in the first half of this year alone.
