Asus launches Lambo hard drive
Laptop and netbook giant Asus has introduced a new range of hard disk drive (HDD) products branded along the sleek and slender lines of the car-maker Lamborghini.
The product launch builds on an existing tie-in between the Asian consumer tech company and the iconic Italian motoring brand that last year saw the launch of a new Lambo-branded Asus laptop.
Associations with the style value of Lamborghini appear to have bumped the price up a little though, with the cost of one of Asus’ newest 750GB HDDs reportedly running at $139 and a 500GB option costing just $20 less. European pricing is yet to be made available.
If content transfer speed is you thing then you might want to invest in a USB 3.0 version of the new external devices, which Asus reckons will get you across the figurative finish line up to ten times more quickly then USB 2.0 alternatives.
Keen to squeeze every pun and motoring analogy it can out of its link-up with the famous European car-maker, Asus explains that its top-end HDDs are “the muscle cars of storage, delivering a whopping 640GB of space with easy USB connectivity”.
“Evoking the trademark aerodynamic flow of Lamborghini cars, these external hard drives stand out from the accessory crowd with an eye-catching design that can’t be missed.”
Asus has been one of the world’s leading suppliers of laptops and netbooks in recent years and it has made clear its intention to stake a claim on the fast-growing tablet PC sector, currently dominated by Apple and the iPad. Indeed, the company’s bosses have set a ten per cent share of the non-iPad tablet market as one of their main aims for 2011.
