Apple’s iPad 2 spotted at Daily event
American news agency, Reuters claim to have spotted a working model of Apple’s unreleased iPad 2 tablet at the release event for The Daily, a digital newspaper app for the iPad.
Reuters say that an eyewitness spotted the prototype at the subsequent press conference about the digital newspaper, and that the sighting was corroborated by a source at Apple who confirmed that working prototypes of iPad 2 are currently in existence.
Reuters were not able to obtain pictures, but the unnamed source also pointed out that the prototypes are far from the finished articles, and that many key features of the iPad 2 are still in development.
The eyewitness described the device as having a front-facing camera at the top edge of the glass screen, but was unable to shed any light on other features.
The iPad 2 is expected to use two cameras, both front and rear facing, which will allow users to make video calls.
Due for release this year, Apple will be hoping the device is able to capitalise on the 14.8 million iPads sold in 2010; a target that analysts expect them to hit with ease, with some predicting double that total.
Apple will have to wage war on several fronts if they are to retain control of the rapidly expanding tablet market, as nearly all of their tech-manufacturing competitors gear up to release their own tablet devices.
