Holiday of a Lifetime: Taking the Family to Florida

If you ask any child where they would like to go this Summer for their holidays, the answer is sure to be DisneyWorld. After all, there isn’t a child on the planet who doesn’t want to meet Mickey Mouse; and not a teen who isn’t cheered by the thrill-seeking delights of rollercoasters in the Orlando sun.

A Florida holiday can be exhausting and with there being so much to fit in, it can be quite tricky to appease everybody. And in these tough financial times, you’re more than likely to be on a budget; in particular if you’re taking children. Fear not, though, this mini-guide will help you ensure that your once in a lifetime holiday will be one to be remembered through the times.

Our first tip is to start creating a checklist for each family member and map out where everybody wants to go, ensuring to spread your time fairly so that everyone gets what they want. Make a start with this guide to the most unmissable attractions for each age group:

Under 7s

Possibly the greatest attraction for the under 7s is meeting the mouse himself, so plan time for a meeting at the Magic Kingdom’s Judge’s Tent in Mickey’s Toontown Fair. Afterwards, move over to Fantasyland and take a flight with Dumbo the Flying Elephant before taking a boat ride on theme park classic ‘It’s A Small World’.

7-12s

Slightly older children may make excuses not to want to meet Mickey and co, but they are probably just trying to be cool so ensure that you book a character breakfast where you can meet the whole gang and put the camera to good use. Inside the Magic Kingdom Castle you can book Cinderella’s Royal Table then spend the day exploring the rides. For the mini-thrill seekers, the Big Thunder Mountain is a great start.

Teens

First stop: Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Teenagers will love the magic of the movies so take them on the themed thrill rides like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror lift as well as the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith. All is within close proximity so hit both before joining the Studio Backlot Tour for madcap tricks everyone will enjoy.

Mum

If mum is an animal lover, she is sure to enjoy the Animal Kingdom, where the Kilimanjaro Safari allows visitors to encounter African animals such as lions, rhinos and zebras. Alternatively, the Maharajah Jungle Trek includes a chance to see tigers, a Komodo dragon and numerous exotic birds. Finish the day with The fantastic Festival of the Lion King and see mum boogey the night away.

Dad

The EPCOT is pure gadget heaven where the attractions in Future World focus on technological innovation. Innoventions is the cool place to be featuring the house of the future, while ‘Mission: SPACE’ simulates a flight to Mars and Spaceship Earth.

Orlando holidays with Virgin Holidays start from £459.
