Asustek planning new netbooks in Eee PC range
Asustek is still planning to introduce new additions to its netbook range despite an increasing emphasis on the development of tablet PCs, according to reports.
The company is among the world’s largest suppliers of personal computers and doesn’t want to miss out on opportunities in the tablet sector but isn’t yet willing to write-off the global netbook market.
Indeed, Asustek is aiming to ship somewhere in the region of six million netbooks over the course of 2011 and expects to see 30 to 35 million units sold worldwide by all major suppliers during that time.
At least three and possibly four new Eee PC netbooks could be brought to market by the Taiwanese firm in the coming months, with prices in a range of categories.
Asustek’s general business manager for Eee PC affairs Samson Hu explained to Digitimes that the consumer tech markets are changing quickly but no-one yet knows precisely what impact the rise of the tablet PC will ultimately have.
He suggested that consumers in various emerging economies, like those of Indonesia, Brazil and the Middle-East are still keen on netbooks as a useful and practical PC option.
Processing units incorporated into Asustek netbooks are expected to be improved this year, even if the designs do not represent any great departure from widely popular models like the Eee PC 1015PW.
The has been plenty of discussion in recent days about Acer’s attitude towards the netbook market worldwide, with the Asian PC giant insisting that it will still be putting plenty of effort into improving its position in the sector.
