Samsung are rumoured to be preparing the launch of a follow-up to the Galaxy Tab; a 10.1 inch tablet device, running Google Android’s new Honeycomb OS.

The rumours state that Samsung’s new tablet will be smaller, thinner and lighter than its predecessor, with a larger screen and black trim as opposed to the Galaxy’s white. The as yet unnamed tablet has been dubbed Galaxy 2 by bloggers and will be debuted at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona next week.

After the somewhat disappointing performance of the Galaxy in the marketplace, Samsung are hoping that this follow up will present a serious challenge to the dominance of Apple, who are gearing up to release iPad 2. They will also be hoping that this release sees off the threat from the other pretender to the throne; the Motorola Xoom.

Prior to the MWC event, specifications are rather thin on the ground. The anonymous device is rumoured to be featuring a dual-core Qualcomm chip as well as an impressive 8 mega pixel camera, but little else is known.

Samsung are also planning to minimise wasted bezel space and maximise ergonomic potential by producing a slightly smaller tablet than the iPad, but with a slightly larger screen.

Speculators had talked of a 9 inch tablet, due to be launched alongside the Android 3.0 running device, although this dual release now looks unlikely.

We now cannot wait until MWC to see what Samsung have got in store for us.
