Nokia tablet in the pipeline, but will it see light of day? at laptopshop.co.ukBeleaguered tech company, Nokia filed a patent for a tablet device according to a recent article, but there is some doubt as to whether the device will ever be released.

The article from Boy Genius Report told that the United States Patent and Trademark Office – USPTO – had published a patent filed by Nokia detailing plans for a new tablet device. Sounds interesting? Well, unfortunately the patent request was dated from May 2010, i.e. well before Nokia president, Stephen Elop’s infamous “burning platform” memo and the decent of the former handset giants to the brink of financial oblivion.

Now that the Finnish company’s financial problems have led to them shelving projects like the MeeGo OS and instead entering into a partnership with Microsoft, it seems unlikely that the tablet will be making an appearance anytime soon.

However, Nokia has experienced success in the market with its proto-tablets, the N800 and N8100, which scoring big successes in the early days of the tablet revolution. If Nokia can pull themselves together it would make sense to try and get back into the game.

Meanwhile, Nokia’s former business partners, Intel continue to forge ahead with the increasingly impressive looking MeeGo operating system, and have vowed to find replacement manufacturers who will run the system on their tablets.
