Google Android and INQ join forcesINQ’s CEO Frank Meehan has confirmed that the company is making plans to introduce its own Android-powered tablet.

He told Electric Pig that tablets is a “very, strong market”, adding that current Android tablets were falling short of the mark.

“The customer isn’t having a great experience at the moment,” Meehan added, citing the Samsung Galaxy Tab as an example.

When asked about Android 3.0, aka Honeycomb, he conceded that the operating system may help solve the issue but added the main issue is the “store itself and the marketplace…customers are not buying enough stuff from the Android Market.”

However, Meehan says there will be an INQ Android tablet one day and heaped praise on the Apple iPad, which is setting the benchmark.

He said: “We’re very closely monitoring the whole pad situation…we’re seeing some nice designs coming out…once the overall experience for the customer is closer to the iPad, then is the time to move, otherwise you’ve just got a second rate iPad”.

Meehan was talking to Electric Pig ahead of the launch of the INQ Cloud Touch Android phone, which offers one to access to Facebook news feeds, status updates and friends.
