toshiba Toshiba announce “high end” tablet at laptopshop.co.ukToshiba have announced plans for a high-end tablet device, due for release later this year.

The as yet unnamed device will run Google’s Android operating system – probably version 3.0 of the OS, Honeycomb – and will be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor.

The 10.1 inch device features 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, a rear-facing 5 mega pixel camera, a 2 mega-pixel camera on the front for video calling and a HDMI connection for streaming media to HD televisions and monitors.

3G and WiFi are both supported by the device, which also features a USB 2.0 port and microSD card for expansion. Toshiba have said that their self-developed Adaptive Display software will be bundled with the device; Adaptive Display adjusts images on the screen based on existing light conditions.

The anonymous tablet is Toshiba’s second attempt at cracking the tablet market, and its manufacturers will be hoping that this new device will out perform the disappointing sales of last years Folio 100 tablet. The Folio was a 10 inch device whose comparatively low price aimed it at the more price conscious of hardware consumers, a move that unfortunately failed to ignite interest in the product.

Toshiba say their tablet will be released in the first half of this year; they have not yet announced a price.
