motorola xoom Motorola Xoom to reach Europe in Q2 at laptopshop.co.ukMotorola has confirmed that its first Android tablet, the Xoom, is to be made available in the UK and much of Europe at some point during the second quarter of this year.

How much it might cost consumers to get their hands on a Xoom is yet to be revealed but Motorola has been keen to talk up the attributes of its Honeycomb slate at the on-going Mobile World Congress in Spain.

An American release is expected in a few months time and Europe shouldn’t be all that far behind, with the company aiming to capture what it can of the non-iPad tablet market on both sides of the Atlantic.

Waxing lyrical on the qualities of the Xoom, Motorola’s vice president of device product management Alain Mutricy said: “Motorola Xoom re-defines what the tablet experience should be. Designed from the ground up with the consumer in mind, it provides more ways to have fun, connect with friends and stay productive while on the go.

“Whether surfing the Web, watching the latest hit movie, or video-chatting with friends, Motorola Xoom will delight consumers with its ease of use, speed and vivid graphics.”

With a dual-core processor, a 10.1 inch display screen and cameras front and back, Motorola claims that its Android-operated slate is not just “the next generation tablet; it’s the one after that”.

Apple is currently well out in front of all its rivals in terms of the number of tablet PCs being sold on a global basis but the research firm Strategy Analytics recently predicted that Android tablets will out-number iOS alternatives within the next two years.
