 Netbooks aren’t dead yet, experts say at laptopshop.co.uk

Experts are predicting a resurgence in the netbook market as consumers get the “tablet jitters” out of their system.

The influx of new and exciting tablet devices in the past 10 months, as well as various computer companies announcing the death of the netbook, caused a sort of panic amongst consumers and retailers alike, anxious to get swept along with the tablet wave.

However, most of these companies that were ready to put the netbook in its coffin have since either released updated versions of their own netbooks or announced plans to do so. This apparent vote of confidence from manufacturers has steadied the ship somewhat.

Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry of Business Insider has expressed concern that tablets are simply not ready to take over from netbook devices just yet;

“For many people who work on the go and do a lot of typing/spreadsheet work, [a netbook is] actually a more attractive proposition than an iPad or some other tablet.” Gobry writes, “Of course, the same laws of technology and economics that mean netbooks keep getting better and cheaper also apply to tablets: one day, we’ll have iPads that have twice the everything of today’s and cost $200. Then there won’t be much of a reason to buy a notebook.”

While netbooks continue to get cheaper and better they will continue to perform well on the PC market. Figures from last quarter surprised everyone when they revealed that netbook sales hadn’t actually imploded as was expected and we can expect that recovery to continue slowly but surely in 2011.
