A screenshot of HTC's trademark filing for the term HTC Sensation/ Droid LifeHTC is looking set to give its HTC Sense user interface an upgrade for its tablets – with the new skin to be called HTC Sensation.

The Taiwanese manufacturer of mobile devices has reportedly patented the term, indicating it is going to customise and optimise its HTC Sense user interface for tablets.

The trademark, filed at the Trademarks and Design Registration Office of the European Union on January 19th, requests that it owns the words ‘HTC Sensation’.

A range of relevant products and services were listed in the patent from wireless devices to portable computers, smartphones and user interfaces.

It’s a clever move by HTC, after HTC Sense allowed it to differentiate its Android smartphone range from those of its rivals – the HTC Desire and Desire HD have been amongst the most successful mobile phone launches of 2010.

Services such as FriendStream and cloud computing have been praised by users and journalists alike.

Although, it has caused Android updates to be delayed as HTC work on making the updates compatible with the user interface.

Industry onlookers will be turning their attention to the Mobile World Congress 2011 to see if HTC Sensation will make its way on to the HTC Flyer or Scribe.
