Apple iPad tablet PCs 2The rumour mill surrounding the soon-to-be released Apple iPad 2 is in full flow – with news of an inbuilt SD card slot, larger screen resolution and slim design doing the internet rounds.

A ‘trusted’ source told Engadget that the new tablet will be come with the SD card slot built into the chassis.

The iPad 2 will also have a 2048 x 1536 pixels screen resolution, which is four-times the number of pixels of its predecessor. However, we are unlikely to see the arrival of Retina Display technology on the Apple tablet range.

It’s reported the screen resolution was revealed when people looked at the background graphics information for the new iBooks app for the iPad.

The tablet will also reportedly boast a new dual or quad-core chipset offering both GSM and CDMA compatibility, meaning it will be optimised for both the AT&T and Verizon in the US.

This means the iPad 2 will hopefully have the power to support the screen resolution, especially if this is combined with a more powerful Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).

It’s also rumoured that the iPad 2 will have a ten-inch screen, front and rear-facing cameras and will be slimmer than the original iPad.
