Today’s leaked image of Nokia’s long awaited MeeGo tablet has sent the internet rumour-mongers into overdrive once again.

Details for the device have been sketchy since it was announced last year and, despite the fact that developers have been busying themselves making software for the tablet since last October, we are still no closer to a confirmed release date.

The picture – apparently showing a tablet device using the Nokia MeeGo platform – pretty much confirms that the device will be a landscape orientated tablet. This was fairly likely all along, but it is the size of the Nokia logo that has fuelled further speculation.

Tech bloggers, Endgadget have pointed out that Nokia prefer to keep their logo more or less the same size on each of their high-end devices. Relatively speaking, this would give the MeeGo tablet a screen of around 4.5 inches.

Releasing a tablet of this size could potentially move Nokia’s tablet out of direct competition with uber-devices such as the iPad, a move that could benefit Nokia as they search for a gap in the market.

However, this is a highly competitive market and Nokia will have a fight on their hands to control this ‘mini-tablet’ niche; most notably from Dell, whose Streak device is an Android tablet similarly trying to bridge the gap between smartphones and tablet devices.
