Asus Eee Pads to be delayed and minus Honeycomb
Asus has confirmed that its latest Eee Pads will be released later than expected and running on Android 2.3.
A spokesperson for Asus said the tablets would not be launching with Android 3.0 (aka Honeycomb), despite the company saying they would previously.
The three tablets were announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month – when it was said that they would all be released with an Android 3.0 operating system.
And in another blow – it now seems that the Eee Pads will also be released in the second half of the year. This follows Asus saying they would be in the shops as early as March.
The three versions of the device will be the Eee Pad Slider, a ten-inch touchscreen with a QWERTY keyboard; the Eee Pad Transformer, a ten-inch touchscreen minus a built-in keyboard; and the Eee Pad MeMo, which has a seven-inch screen.
Asus marketing specialist John Swatton told The INQUIRER that the company was unaware of the detailed technical specifications of Android 3.0.
He added that the tablets should never have been announced as running on the operating system, which is said to be the Android operating system for tablets.
It’s also not known if they will have Asus app store on them and they will not have access to the Android app store because they will not have phone functionality.
