Ever since first hearing about Phoenix Jones: The Real Life Superhero – a masked vigilante who walks the streets of Seattle in an attempt to stop crime – I have been hoping to hear about any further developments. Having already been stabbed and had a gun pulled on him, there was the sense that while it is fun and games for now, all is going to eventually end in tears.
And sadly, this is almost what happened to the Guardian of Seattle as he tried to protect the city from crime. Armed with his usual array of weaponry, Phoenix Jones attempted to break up a fight with a man who was armed with a gun – and had his nose broken for his trouble.
Despite the injury, the father of two remains persistent in his attempts to stop crime, and claims that he is undeterred by such incidents:
“If police aren’t here, criminals feel free to run wild in my city and I’m not going to stand for it” said the 22-year-old.
Jones also maintains the stance that he puts his life on the line ‘with a reason and purpose’ and committed to the claims that he and his Rain City Superhero Movement have all had a military or martial arts background.
But police have slowly lost their cool with the not so super superhero as one detective asked: “Does superman get his ass kicked?”.
“These people should not be called superheroes” he added.
This comes after the crime-fighting vigilante allowed a perpetrator to walk free after not pressing charges in order to protect his secret identity.
Phoenix Jones’ motives have to be put into question. Does he really have intentions of protecting his city, or is this just a chance of getting his 15 minutes of fame? While the first may be true, so is the latter; which means that his constant love affair with the press will be ended by somebody trying to claim their own spot on TV.
